Cook Something Original And Fantastic 30-Day Goal

I love to cook and I like to do a lot of cooking when I have the chance. I am always on the lookout for new and interesting recipes but I rarely have the opportunity to create completely original and new dishes due to time constraints or other factors to do with running a software start-up. During the month of April, I will be giving myself a 30-day micro-goal of creating and cooking twenty original dishes from only natural, fresh ingredients.

Having an appreciative audience helps and I am blessed in that regard with my current roommate who is very adventurous, from a culinary standpoint, than other people I have shared a home with in the past.

Each meal I cook should have one completely original creation as the main dish or focus. I do not want to just cook mundane dishes that I regularly prepare, nor do I want to cook dishes that come from recipes freely available in books or on websites. I really want to push my culinary skills beyond where they have stagnated for the past 8 months or so.

The ground rules for my 30-day goal are:

  • At least 20 original creations
  • The original dish should be the main focus of the meal or form a significant part of meal
  • Fresh and natural ingredients
  • Nothing processed or packaged

I will also be concentrating several days over the next month towards the dessert aspect as I really want to improve in that area more so than any other.

I am going to be working without a meal plan as I go through this goal. I will focus each week on a particular culinary experience such as Italian, Asian, American, but also mix it up a little so that the people eating are not bored by 7 days of pasta. :)

I believe that not completely planning what meals I will cook days or weeks in advance will allow me some creative freedom in the dishes that I prepare from one day to the next. I will be able to use leftovers a day or so later without concern for how much is leftover.

Come back in a week or so when I will post how I am getting on and share some recipes of the dishes I cooked.
